257mph Strix Goblin fastest FPV plank
Taking both first and second positions, British pilot/builder OMEGOLLIEBIRD is the current champion of FPV plank and wing speed. In the comments section of the speed run video, the usual doubters make themselves known, but this is quickly shut down by Bruce Baxter who succinctly states ‘Easier to do it than fake it’. Flying the super fast Goblin is a real balancing act – OMEGOLLIEBIRD states that the Goblin can only maintain 257mph for 10-20 seconds before the battery is shot and that speed runs should be performed without letting the aircraft get too far away since radio control/FPV could easily be lost (the Goblin can cover a mile in 14 seconds).
OSD linked to onboard GPS registering 413 kmh or 256.6 mph onboard the Strix Goblin
The Goblin is known to be slippery in the air, with some pilots suspecting it could use only half the amps of the 2nd place Funjet at a 200mph cruise. However, the Goblin’s record is now under threat from the german LOS ‘Big Monster’, which hit an incredible 308mph on June 10th 2018 courtesy of a 16S LiPo battery (yes you read 16S!). Many now want to see the Big Monster fitted with FPV (see comments section of video below).
But even the Big Monster pales in comparison with the 478mph RC Speeder “Inferno”. This 7.5kg plane is fitted with a $3390 Behotec 180 Jet Turbine and currently holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest remote-controlled jet-powered model aircraft. Nonetheless, until the Big Monster and Inferno are fitted with FPV, the 257mph Strix Goblin reigns the king of FPV speed. Watch the inferno reach a 451mph in the flight video below.
